Back in 2015, Innovate UK awarded the city of Manchester £10 million to help transition into a Smart City, part of that funding was awarded to PixelMill to develop a virtual cycling simulator to help visualise future possibilities using immersive technology.
Working with Manchester City Council and TFGM we remodeled a newly developed cycle route that was built in conjunction with the Smart City action plan. The public were able to ride a physical bike whilst experiencing our digital twin of Oxford Road in VR. We monitored and collected data based on the user experience, input and decision making.
The project won the ‘Most Innovative Application of Technology’ award at the Big Chip awards and continues to help support our active travel and urban mobility projects.
